1.Microsoft Language Understanding Intelligent Service (LUIS)

The platform uses intents and entities. All LUIS active learning applications are centered around a domain-specific topic or content related. You can use pre-existing, world-class, pre-built models from Bing and Cortana. Deploy models to an HTTP endpoint with one click. LUIS returns easy-to-use JSON. LUIS stores all incoming expressions in the Logs section and provides semi-automatic learning features with Suggestion, when the system tries to predict the correct intents that are already present in the Model.

Pricing: LUIS API — Free: 10,000 transactions free per month; LUIS API — Basic: Up to 10 transactions per second; $0.75 per 1,000 transactions.

Platforms: Facebook, Kik, Slack, Telegram, Twilio, Microsoft Teams, Skype,k GroupMe, Web Chat, Email, Direct Line.

Supported languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.

Pre-built feature: It has pre-built entities like number (in number or text), temperature, dimensions, money, age, geography, encyclopedia, percentage, and date-time.

2. IBM Watson

IBM moved the technology behind the Watson into the cloud and released the set of API that you can use in your own conversational applications. The API set includes language understanding offerings from a natural language classifier to concept insights and dialogue processing. There are a lot of building blocks that you can use in your application, but you probably will spend a fair amount of time integrating them into one solution as there is no single API that does intent and entity recognition in a single call, this is inconvenient since you have to build your own pipeline with multiple API calls to extract all the information you need and it’s harder to link entities to intent. There is no service to manage the conversation using these APIs.

Pricing: Lite, Standard and Premium plans are available.

3. Amazon Lex

Amazon Lex is a service for building conversational interfaces into any application using voice and text. Amazon Lex provides the advanced deep learning functionalities of automatic speech recognition (ASR) for converting speech to text, and natural language understanding (NLU) to recognize the intent of the text. As a fully managed service, Amazon Lex scales automatically, so you don’t need to worry about managing infrastructure.

Pricing:

  • $0.004 per voice request, and $.00075 per text request. Your usage is measured in “requests processed”, which are added up at the end of the month to generate your monthly charges.
  • Free offer — up to 10,000 text requests and 5,000 speech requests per month for free for the first year.

Platforms: built-in integration with Facebook, Slack and Twilio; but if you want to connect to a messaging service that isn’t supported, there’s an API for that — the Amazon Lex API.

Supported languages: Presently, Amazon Lex is limited to support of US English.

Programming languages: You can build bots using SDKs: Java, JavaScript, Python, CLI, .NET, Ruby on Rails, PHP, Go, and CPP.

Pre-built feature: Native interoperability with AWS Lambda, AWS MobileHub and Amazon CloudWatch and easy integration with many other services on the AWS platform including Amazon Cognito, and Amazon DynamoDB.
